The Beast of Bailey Downs was a male werewolf that terrorized the rural community of Bailey Downs and who was the suspect in the murder of several of the community's dogs. Playing a role in Ginger Snaps, the Beast was the werewolf who afflicted Ginger Fitzgerald with the lycanthropy virus.
Origin[]
The origins of the Beast are unknown, but he was an infected male who transformed. Based on the lore from Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning, it was bound to happen that the Fitzgerald sisters were cursed to be inflicted with lycanthropy; however, it is unknown how the male first got infected, whether through another werewolf of unknown origin, werewolves that somehow survived the events from Canada in the early 19th century, or through supernatural effects.

Attack on Bailey Downs[]
The Beast is responsible for the murder of several dogs in the Bailey Downs neighborhood for several days. One night early October 1999, he attacked Ginger in the woods while the Fitzgerald sisters were at the park, biting Ginger and spreading its infection. It is unknown if the Beast had infected other humans.
Death[]
As the Fitzgerald sisters fled from the monster, the Beast chased them across the road where it was struck and killed by Sam. When Sam investigates, he sees a bloody mess of what used to be the Beast, with few parts akin to that of a wolf and human visible.
Appearance[]

The Beast had large paws, was almost hairless on his body, a sharp snout, pointed eyes, and a wrinkled face. The Beast had little resemblance to a human, with the exception of a circumcised penis as observed by Sam, proving that it was a male who was infected.
Analysis[]
The Beast was responsible for infecting Ginger Fitzgerald and sparking the events of the first two films in the Ginger Snaps series. In addition, the Beast had killed several dogs in the Bailey Downs community. Somehow, it avoided being seen by the town's inhabitants, and was nicknamed the "Beast of Bailey Downs" for its terrifying howls and its cruel killing spree. The Beast brought out the apathy of the local residents of Bailey Downs, where after several murdered dogs, as seen with the loud grieving of Baxter's owner, the neighbors continued their daily routine. The apathy of the "suburban life" is highlighted in Brigitte's diary.
The werewolf's sudden attack on Ginger, caused by the scent of blood from Ginger's period and which subsequently led to her developing augmented body features and her becoming more sexually aggressive, could represent the sudden onset of adolescence or puberty. For young girls, a period can happen suddenly, just like the Beast's attack, and it can be a traumatizing first experience for the beginning of adolescence.
Trivia[]
- Despite there being tall fences around house backyards and the houses being close together so several neighbors could hear the ruckus, the Beast was never caught sight of. It is interesting how the Beast could attack dogs and move around the neighborhood without being seen. It is assumed that the werewolf only hunts and travels out at night. It is unknown where the Beast stays during the night, or how it avoids detection.
- The Beast proves that the transformation from a human to a werewolf does not remove all human features (where Sam remarks to Brigitte that what he had run over was not natural, because he had seen a circumcised penis on it). From Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning, the soldiers were able to discern a tattoo on one of the werewolves who had been transformed for a while, justifying that the final werewolf transformation does retain certain human features, and the new appearance is permanent.
- The werewolf has a difference appearance from the werewolf appearing in the second and third films. This werewolf appears pale, almost entirely hairless.
